Jon Griffin’s musical journey began at the age of twelve years of old when he discovered his grandmother’s record collection: Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Ernest Tubbs, Tennessee Ernie Ford, and Hank Williams Sr.
Jon is a lyricist who loves the story behind a song. His musical repertoire includes Classic Rock & Roll, Blues, Country, & Reggae. His love for Blues began with his discovery of John Lee Hooker and Robert Johnson. Blues is a tap root for him.
Jon's first experience with music was at the age of thirteen and his first paid gigs at the age of fourteen. While living in Marshall, Texas, he was hired to clean Wurlitzer organs at the Paramount Movie Theater. The theater stage was rented out as a rehearsal space for bands. One day, a Southern Rock band was rehearsing. During their break, Jon went on stage, picked up one of the guitars, and started playing. After the band members yelled at him to stop, they realized he could actually play and asked him to join them. At the tender age of fourteen years of age, Jon was paid to play in barns, trailer parks, and honky-tonks.
Today, Jon is a well-known native Texan guitarist, songwriter, and singer playing in venues all over the metroplex. He plays solo or ensemble music with his band JG Blues. Jon’s performances are filled with high energy, funky beats. The joy he has playing the guitar is a wondrous sight to behold.
